Dhenkanal, July 9: Bhagirathi Sahoo, former Senior Clerk-cum-Incharge Head Clerk of the Establishment Section at the office of the Block Development Officer (BDO), Gondia Block, Dhenkanal, has been convicted in a bribery case. The conviction follows charges filed by the Odisha Vigilance department under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
Sahoo was found guilty of demanding and accepting a bribe from a retired employee of the Gondia Block in exchange for processing pensionary benefit papers. The case, registered as Cuttack Vigilance PS Case No. 10 dated 24 March 2018, was tried by the Hon’ble Special Judge, Vigilance, Dhenkanal.
The court sentenced Bhagirathi Sahoo to rigorous imprisonment for three years along with a monetary fine.
Following the conviction, the Odisha Vigilance department has announced it will initiate proceedings to stop the pension benefits of the accused former official.
